Refund policy
Return & Refund Policy
If a dress isn't right for you, we want getting it back to us to be simple and honest, even though your return travels further than most. This page sets out exactly how long you have to return an order, where your return actually needs to go, how we handle your refund, what happens if something arrives faulty, and the legal rights that sit underneath our own policy as a Netherlands-registered company selling internationally sourced goods to customers in the United Kingdom.
Valerive is a trading name of S Commerce, a company registered in the Netherlands. S Commerce is who you contract with, who takes your payment, and who is legally responsible for this policy — we are not a marketplace, so every return on this page is handled under our own terms, not a third-party seller's.
Our dresses are manufactured and shipped by our fulfilment partner in China, and that is also where a change-of-mind return needs to be sent — see Section 4 for the full address. This is different from our own registered office in the Netherlands, and we want that distinction to be completely clear before you order, not something you discover when you come to return something.
You have 30 calendar days from the date your order is delivered to tell us you'd like to return it, no reason required. That is more than double the 14-day statutory minimum described in Section 3, because we would rather you actually try the dress on, wear it for an evening, and decide with confidence than feel rushed into a decision the moment the parcel arrives.
To qualify for a return under this policy, the dress must be unworn, unwashed, undamaged, and returned with its original tags and any packaging it came with, together with proof of purchase — your order number or confirmation email is sufficient. Because your return travels internationally to Section 4's address, please post it promptly once you've told us you're returning it, so it doesn't sit around before starting its journey back. Items returned outside these conditions may be declined or subject to a reduced refund, and we'll always tell you why if that happens.
Separately from our own 30-day policy, you have a legal right to cancel most online orders. In the United Kingdom, this is set out in the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013: you may cancel within 14 days of receiving your goods, simply by telling us, and you then have a further 14 days to send the item back. Because S Commerce is established in the Netherlands, the equivalent Dutch/EU right of withdrawal (herroepingsrecht) under Boek 6 of the Burgerlijk Wetboek, implementing EU Directive 2011/83/EU, applies in parallel and governs our contract with you regardless of where your dress is manufactured or shipped from. Our 30-day return window does not replace either right — it simply gives you more time than the law requires.
| Right | Legal minimum | Valerive's policy |
|---|---|---|
| Time to notify us you're cancelling | 14 days from delivery (UK Regs 2013 / EU Directive 2011/83/EU) | 30 calendar days from delivery |
| Time to physically send the item back | A further 14 days after cancelling | Included within the same 30-day window |
| Time to receive your refund | Within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or of you providing evidence you've sent them, whichever is earlier | Within 10 days of whichever of those happens first |
Please do not send anything to our Nieuwegein registered office — it is an administrative address only and cannot receive or process returned goods. Every return under this policy must be sent to the address below, which belongs to the fulfilment partner who manufactures and ships your order. Always contact us first at support@valerive.com before posting anything, so we can confirm your return and send you this address directly along with any paperwork you need.

A few things that make an international return go smoothly:
Choose a tracked international service from Royal Mail, Evri, Parcelforce or a similar carrier, and keep hold of your proof of postage and tracking number — you'll need this for Section 6.
On the customs declaration, describe the contents as "returned goods — no commercial value" and give a low declared value. This helps prevent our fulfilment partner from being charged import duty on your own returned item when it arrives.
International post to China typically takes several weeks. That's why we base your refund timing on proof that you've sent the parcel, not on it physically arriving — see Section 5.
Email support@valerive.com with your order number and which item you're returning, or use our Contact page.
Our customer care team, monitored 24/7 by email, replies within 5 hours with confirmation, the Section 4 address, and guidance on completing the customs form correctly.
Return the dress unworn, unwashed and with its original tags, together with your proof of purchase, using a tracked international postal service.
Forward your proof of postage or tracking number to us by email — this starts the 10-day refund clock in Section 6, well before your parcel needs to physically arrive.
We know a return to China takes longer in transit than a domestic one, so we don't make you wait for it to physically arrive before we act. We process your refund within 10 days of whichever happens first: your parcel being confirmed as received by our fulfilment partner, or you providing us with valid proof that you've sent it — a tracking number or a stamped proof-of-postage receipt from your carrier is sufficient. This mirrors, and beats, the legal requirement described in Section 3.
Your refund goes back to your original payment method — the same card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Shop Pay account you checked out with. Your bank or payment provider may take a few additional days to show the funds in your account after we issue the refund; this part is outside our control, but we'll confirm by email the moment our side is done.
If your order qualified for free standard shipping and you are returning the entire order for a change-of-mind refund, we refund the price you paid for the item(s); as shipping was free, there is no delivery charge to deduct.
For a change-of-mind return under our 30-day policy, you are responsible for the cost of sending the item back to China, unless it arrived faulty, damaged or incorrect. International tracked postage generally costs more than a domestic UK return — please check current rates with your chosen carrier before you post.
You can return just one dress from a multi-item order. We refund each returned item individually once we have proof it's been sent.
We don't currently offer direct exchanges. Return the original item for a refund and place a new order for the size or style you'd prefer.
If a dress arrives faulty, damaged in transit, or not what you ordered, this sits outside our 30-day change-of-mind policy and instead falls under your statutory legal guarantee: the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 (goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described), and the equivalent conformity requirement under the Dutch Burgerlijk Wetboek, Boek 7. These rights apply against S Commerce as the seller and are not reduced by the fact that your dress was manufactured or shipped from China.
In these cases, we will always offer a full refund, a replacement, or a repair, at your choice where all three are reasonably available. Because a prepaid international return label to China isn't something we can generate automatically, we reimburse the actual, reasonable cost of tracked postage you pay to send a faulty item back — please keep your receipt and send it to us along with your tracking number, and we'll refund that cost alongside your item refund.
Please contact us as soon as you notice the problem, with a photo of the fault or damage and your order number, so we can resolve it quickly — and in some cases, agree a resolution without needing the item sent all the way back.
Most dresses qualify for return under Section 2. We are unable to accept a return, or may reduce the refund, where:
Beyond trying it on to check fit, in the way you would in a fitting room.
Tags are how we confirm the dress hasn't been worn out and about before it comes back to us.
We may still consider a late return at our discretion — contact us and we'll take a look.
Any item sold as final sale is clearly labelled as such on its product page before you buy it; nothing is marked final sale after the fact.
None of the above affects your statutory rights under Section 7 if an item is genuinely faulty, damaged or not as described.
We hope you never need to go beyond emailing us, but you always have the right to. Because your contract is with S Commerce, a Netherlands-registered company selling to you in the United Kingdom, it is UK and Dutch/EU consumer law that governs your order and your rights — not the law of the country your dress happens to be manufactured or shipped from. If a return, refund or faulty-item dispute isn't resolved to your satisfaction, you can seek independent advice or raise a complaint through the following bodies.
Contact Citizens Advice for free, independent guidance on your consumer rights, or report the matter to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice consumer service.
The Autoriteit Consument & Markt (ACM) provides consumer guidance through ACM ConsuWijzer at acm.nl, and is the competent authority for e-commerce consumer protection matters concerning S Commerce.
